How to fix eSIM not connecting on iPhone

Use this checklist when your iPhone shows a travel eSIM but mobile data is slow, stuck, or not loading.

01

Step 1: Select the travel eSIM and set APN

Start by making sure iOS is actually using the ZEN travel eSIM for cellular data, then set the Cellular Data APN to data00.telnyx.

  1. 01Open Settings > Mobile Service or Cellular > Mobile Data.
  2. 02Choose Travel, Secondary, Business, Personal, or the plan label shown on your phone as the mobile data line.
  3. 03Open the travel eSIM details and make sure Turn On This Line is enabled.
  4. 04Open Settings > Mobile Service or Cellular > your travel eSIM > Cellular Data Network.
  5. 05Set Cellular Data APN to data00.telnyx for the travel eSIM.
  6. 06Keep your primary line available for calls or SMS if needed, but keep mobile data on the travel eSIM while testing.

02

Step 2: Set data roaming for the country

Data roaming must be set from the iPhone settings path for the travel eSIM, not from the primary SIM settings.

  1. 01Open Settings > Mobile Service or Cellular > your travel eSIM > Data Roaming.
  2. 02If you are using the plan in the United States, set Data Roaming to OFF.
  3. 03If you are using the plan outside the United States, set Data Roaming to ON.
  4. 04Keep data roaming off on your primary SIM if you want to avoid home-carrier roaming charges.
  5. 05Wait a minute for the phone to re-register after changing this setting.

03

Step 3: Choose a network manually

Automatic network selection can stick to a weak roaming partner. Manual selection forces the phone to try a different local carrier.

  1. 01Open Settings > Mobile Service or Cellular > your travel eSIM > Network Selection.
  2. 02Turn automatic network selection off and wait for the full carrier list to load. This can take a minute.
  3. 03Choose one available local network and wait for the phone to register.
  4. 04Open a simple website to test data. If it fails, return to the list and try another available network.
  5. 05Turn automatic selection back on after data works, especially before moving to another city or country.

04

Step 4: Restart the phone and test cleanly

Restarting reloads the SIM profile, roaming state, and selected network after the settings are correct.

  1. 01Turn airplane mode on.
  2. 02Wait 30 seconds.
  3. 03Turn airplane mode off and wait for the phone to register again.
  4. 04If data still does not load, Hold the side button and a volume button, slide to power off, wait 30 seconds, then turn the iPhone back on.
  5. 05Open a browser and test a simple website before opening maps, social apps, VPNs, or other data-heavy apps.

05

Check the destination and plan

A travel eSIM can only attach where the selected plan has coverage. Regional plans still have country lists, and border areas can briefly connect to the wrong network.

  • Confirm you are in a supported country for the exact plan.
  • Move out of basements, aircraft mode dead zones, or remote areas before retesting.
  • If you just landed, allow a few minutes for the phone to register.

06

Disable blockers while testing

VPNs, private DNS, parental controls, and some security apps can block the first connection test. Disable them briefly, retest data, then turn back on only the tools you need.
